Woodhaven Reformed Church (Byron Center, MI) has begun a search for a LEAD PASTOR to guide it into a new chapter of ministry, one during which the congregation hopes to grow younger. The Lead Pastor will have the privilege of providing biblical and relevant sermons, strong and strategic leadership, consensus building coaching for the staff and lay leaders, as well as crisis level pastoral care for the congregation.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a devoted follower of Jesus Christ gifted by the Holy Spirit in the areas of preaching and leadership, complimented by the social skills necessary to engage and connect with the varying demographic groups in the congregation. He or she will also be culturally astute, like the men of Issachar who understood the times (I Chronicles 12:32), and be especially in tune with how to position the church to engage younger generations.
Woodhaven Reformed Church is a congregation of about 350 people whose campus is located just off a highway. As a regional congregation, it serves Byron Center and several surrounding communities including, but not limited to Grandville, Wyoming, and Hudsonville. The ministry is supported by a motivated staff of part-time and full-time specialists. The campus includes a uniquely designed sanctuary with plenty of room for growth, as well as the “Woodshed,” a creative multi-purpose space detached from the main building. The congregation has just come off a self-study during which it reaffirmed its commitment to do and be its best while sharing Christ with those in the region. With the hope of growing younger, the church plans on focusing its outreach efforts on those experiencing major transitions in life, such as their first full-time job, their first home, and their first child.
Byron Center, a rural suburb of Grand Rapids, has great schools, quiet neighborhoods, top notch health care, excellent recreational opportunities, and just the right amount of country. Residents move fluidly from Byron Center to Grandville, Wyoming, or Hudsonville where they find additional opportunities for shopping, recreation, dining, and entertainment. When they want more of the big city, they drive 14 miles north to enjoy the amenities of Grand Rapids. When they want more country or water, they drive about 30 minutes west to Lake Michigan. In short, Byron Center is a great place to live.
