The First Congregational Church of Thomaston (CT)—a vibrant and historic New England congregation seeking to love God, one another, and their neighbors—awaits the arrival of its next pastor, a person of God characterized by humble devotion to Jesus Christ, a call to pastoral ministry, as well as a strong devotional and prayer life. The ideal candidate for this position will be a general practitioner who not only loves the local church, but has been equipped by our Triune God to serve the church in the areas of preaching, worship, leadership, and pastoral care. The ministry of the ideal candidate will be enhanced through dependence upon the Holy Spirit, authentic relationships, collegial leadership, and a passion to extend the witness of Christ into the community.
The First Congregational Church of Thomaston (organized in 1837) is an Evangelical but unaffiliated congregation holding to the authority of the Bible, adhering to the Reformed faith, and practicing congregational polity. Ask most anyone in town, and he or she will tell you that First Church is a loving, caring, charitable, and community oriented congregation. The congregation is now enjoying a season of renewal led by Interim Pastor Will Hope. During his tenure, the congregation has renewed its mission, clarified its values, and experienced numerical growth. It now looks forward to its next chapter of ministry led by a new pastor.
Thomaston is a small town of about 7500 named after nineteenth-century clock-maker Seth Thomas. The community enjoys each of the four seasons of the year and is located at the confluence of the Naugatuck River, Northfield Brook, and Black Rock Brook. The family-friendly and close-knit community of Thomaston is the home of Black Rock State Park, excellent public schools, and the Thomaston Opera House. Within fifteen minutes in any direction one finds access to major communities, services, and venues. New York City is two hours to the west and Boston is two-and-a-half hours to the east.
