Pastoral Opportunity in Costa Rica

Gathering SpaceEscazú Christian Fellowship  (ECF) has begun an international search for her next pastor – a dedicated Christ-follower gifted by the Spirit as a shepherd, preacher, teacher, and leader. The pastor of the ECF is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the church and the spiritual development of the ECF community, as well as the coordination and support of volunteers. The pastor’s primary responsibilities include leading the congregation in pursuit of its mission and in incremental growth, planning and leading the weekly gatherings of the congregation, providing pastoral care for the congregation, and following the prompting of the Spirit as a faithful and diligent servant of the Lord. The ideal candidate for this position will be theologically trained and will have international or cross-cultural experience.

gathered peopleECF is an international, interdenominational church called to be “the heart, hands and voice of Jesus Christ” in Costa Rica’s English-speaking community. While a small church, ECF has a big heart, an average attendance of 65, an exciting children’s ministry, and broad volunteer participation. Guided by a desire to be  “a world of travelers safely home,” ECF quickly integrates newcomers with a warm welcome, an invitation to participate, and opportunities for fellowship and fun inside and outside of the church walls. As the congregation looks ahead, she envisions a new pastor leading her to be more dynamically missional in the community.

Escazú2Escazú is a suburb of San Jose, the capital of the rugged but beautiful rainforested country of Costa Rica. Escazú is situated along the slopes of Cerro Escazú and is divided into three neighborhoods: San Rafael de Escazú, San Miguel de Escazú, also known as Escazú Centro, and San Antonio de Escazú. North through the winding hills above Escazú, you find hiking trails with excellent views. As for the demographics of the community, 20% of the nearly 60,000 residents of Escazú are foreign born (compared to the national average of 10%); taking only the neighborhood of San Rafael into account, there is a foreign born for every 3 citizens.
