Solo Pastor opportunity on the banks of the Mississippi

The First Reformed Church of Fulton, IL looks forward to discovering the woman, man or couple God is preparing to serve as its next Pastor. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced general practitioner, a pastor who loves planning and leading worship, preparing and delivering sermons, providing pastoral care and spiritual direction, working alongside a core group of dedicated volunteers, and being present in the community as a representative of the congregation.

The ideal candidate for this opportunity is a dedicated Christ-follower characterized by a deep and growing love for Christ and the Church, a relational person who loves people, listens well, and maintains healthy boundaries, and a theologically trained person who affirms a Reformed understanding of the Christian Faith.

The ideal candidate for this opportunity will be uniquely gifted and equipped to (1) create and deliver biblical sermons relevant to the congregation’s vision and needs, (2) plan and lead the weekly gathering of the church, (3) shepherd the people of God with love, wisdom and grace, and (4) encourage and empower a core group of dedicated volunteers (Consistory) towards the realization of the vision of First Church.

The First Reformed Church has been serving the Fulton community for over 150 years. More recently, the church has decided to focus its ministry on a relatively neglected demographic: those over the age of 55, those, they believe, more likely to appreciate their traditional worship style which features the sermon supplemented by the organ, a choir, responsive readings, and the sacraments. Of course, making that decision is one thing and implementing it is another. The Consistory hopes a new pastor will help them live into this mission.

The City of Fulton is a quaint community of about 3500 residents, rich in heritage and charm, located along the banks of the Mississippi River. In Fulton, a region initially settled by Dutch Immigrants, you will discover 170+ years of history, stand inside an authentic working Dutch Windmill, enjoy the Andresen Nature Center, visit the Heritage Canyon, and much more.
